** If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. No questions are too big/small/silly/etc. We’ve only had people regret not asking. Also, not everything on the above list will need to come with you, but they’re good to consider. We recommend bringing them to the trailhead and we can advise you there (depending on weather, other stuff you have, etc.)
Itinerary
Day 1**:
Meet at 9:30-10am at the trailhead
Get familiarized with gear and go over safety briefing
Approximately 2-4 hours of hiking, depending on group need breaks
Set up camp
Afternoon activities (options for rest, meditation, day hiking, photography, fishing, swimming, gathering wood, etc.)
Fire (as allowed) and Dinner
Day 2**:
AM free time (options for rest, meditation, photography, fishing, etc.)
Breakfast
Guided stretching (if requested)
Break down camp
Approximately 2-4 hours of hiking back to trailhead depending on group needs and breaks
Return home to a shower and comfortable bed!

Detailed Directions
From Nevada City: Take Hwy 20 headed east toward Truckee for approximately 20 miles. Make a left on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18). Stay on that road (windy, with tight corners and narrow spots, but paved) for approximately 6 miles and turn right on Forest Road 17, an unimproved dirt road (not recommended for low vehicles). Stay to the right for 3 miles, until reaching the parking area.
From I-80: Take Hwy 20 exit and follow Hwy 20 headed west for approximately 5 miles. Turn right on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18). Stay on that road (windy, with tight corners and narrow spots, but paved) for approximately 6 miles and turn right on Forest Road 17, an unimproved dirt road (not recommended for low vehicles). Stay to the right for 3 miles, until reaching the parking area.
Trail: Carr Lake to Penner or Downey Lake (Or a nearby lake depending on group and availability of campspots)
Where: Tahoe National Forest
The hike begins at Carr-Feeley Lake Campground and Trailhead

We will meet in the Sierra Discovery Trail parking lot before heading too the trailhead. This is about 30 minutes from the trailhead.

There is minimal service at the trailhead.

It takes around 2 hours to get to the trailhead from Sacramento and about 3.25 hours from San Francisco. There is lodging in the Rocklin and Auburn area if you’d like to come up the night before to get a jump on the trip.
